Terms of use

General broadcast terms, KbitPlay, KbitTV and Super-MAP (Media Action Person) terms and conditions of use.

General Broadcast Terms of use

Thank you for your interest in using the Kbit Network services “KbitPlay” and “KbitTV”, brands operated by Simifran (UK) Ltd.

These Terms of Service constitute a binding agreement between you (“you”, “your” or the “User”), whether acting as an individual, organisation or business, and Kbit Network (“we”, “us” or “our”), the provider of the Services.

Throughout these Terms, “you”, “they”, “User”, “Broadcaster” or “Contributor” means the individual or entity using the Services, including any individual, entity, successor entity, agency or network acting on their behalf. “We”, “us” or “our” means Kbit Network. “KbitPlay” and “KbitTV” mean the relevant service being accessed, used or submitted to, and the “Parties” means you and Kbit Network.

1. The Service

Kbit Network provides a platform through which users may listen to, view, perform, provide or deliver audio and video broadcasts through its online services, including KbitPlay and KbitTV, together referred to in these Terms as the “Service”.

The Service is licensed to you and not sold. You may therefore use the Service only in accordance with these Terms. These Terms govern your use of the websites located at https://www.kbitplay.co.uk and any other websites, online properties, applications or services owned, controlled or operated by or on behalf of Kbit Network, including applications made available for mobile phones, tablets, set-top boxes and other consumer electronic or computer devices, whether provided directly, through third parties or on a pre-installed basis.

By accessing or using the Service, you represent and warrant that you have the legal capacity and are of the legally acceptable age required to enter into and be bound by these Terms. Kbit Network accepts no responsibility or liability for any misrepresentation of your age or legal capacity.

By using the Service to listen to or view content, broadcast content, or submit content, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you must not access or use the Service.

Where a conflict arises between these Terms and any other terms or agreement relating to your use of the Service, these Terms shall take precedence to the extent of that conflict, unless expressly agreed otherwise in writing by Kbit Network.

Kbit Network websites, applications and other online services may contain links to third-party websites, including websites operated by sponsors or advertisers. The inclusion of a third-party link does not, by itself, constitute an endorsement by Kbit Network of that third party, its products, services or website content.

2. Users, Broadcasters & Contributors

“Users”, “Broadcasters” and/or “Contributors” means individuals or entities that use the Service; deliver or submit shows or other content; are connected with, own, operate or act on behalf of a station or network; or have authority to submit business information, station information, a show or other content to Kbit Network.

Each User, Broadcaster and Contributor warrants and undertakes that they have, and will continue to have throughout their use of the Service, all rights, licences, permissions and consents required from third parties in relation to the content they deliver, submit, upload or broadcast through Kbit Network.

This includes, where applicable, all rights necessary to communicate content to the public, make content available, broadcast it, stream it and publicly perform musical compositions and sound recordings through any Kbit Network website or Service, including licences or permissions required from relevant copyright owners, collecting societies, performing-rights organisations and any other person or organisation administering such rights.

3. Submissions

A Broadcaster or Contributor should only submit or deliver a show, business listing, station listing or other content if they have authority to do so and agree to comply with these Terms.

Kbit Network may remove a show, station, business listing or other content without prior notice where we receive a legitimate request from an authorised person, rights holder, relevant business, station or other person with authority over the relevant material.

The User, Broadcaster or Contributor is solely responsible for compliance with all laws applicable to their show, station or content, including its availability through the Kbit Network Services. They are also responsible for complying with all applicable published policies, guidelines, broadcasting standards and industry codes of practice.

The User, Broadcaster or Contributor accepts sole responsibility for:

the supervision of authorised business or station users and show contributors, including ensuring their compliance with these Terms;

the delivery, uploading and maintenance of the User’s, Broadcaster’s or Contributor’s content;

the security and integrity of submitted content; and

the creation, safety and integrity of any backups of such content.

Each show, live broadcast and other item of content submitted to Kbit Network must comply with these Terms. Submitted shows, live broadcasts and other content may be connected, streamed or uploaded in the form in which they are supplied.

Kbit Network may verify whether a submitted live station is new or existing and whether it is operating in accordance with an identifiable programming schedule. We aim to process most station submissions within three working days. The Contributor or Broadcaster will normally be informed whether a station submission has been approved or declined.

Slots allocated for recorded or live broadcasts may be checked automatically or manually by a programme administrator and may be replaced, suspended or removed if a submission is found to be irregular or inconsistent with the agreed broadcast arrangements.

Kbit Network shall provide the Services on the basis that submitted shows, live broadcasts and other content comply with applicable laws in the United Kingdom, together with any other laws properly applicable to the relevant content or Broadcaster.

4. Rights and Copyrights

Users, Broadcasters, Contributors, station owners and any entity making a submission are responsible for obtaining and maintaining all copyright permissions and other rights applicable to their content or shows.

Kbit Network and its licensors retain ownership of all Intellectual Property Rights in the Kbit Network Services and in any material created by Kbit Network in the course of providing the Services, whether or not that material is supplied directly to the Broadcaster or Contributor.

Where Kbit Network receives credible information indicating that a Broadcaster, Contributor or station may be infringing copyright or otherwise operating unlawfully, Kbit Network may investigate the matter. Where the information is reasonably verified, Kbit Network may remove the relevant entity or material from the Network without prior notice and may cooperate with the appropriate authorities where legally required or reasonably appropriate.

Kbit Network does not exercise editorial control over all shows, programming or content transmitted by live Broadcasters, Contributors or stations and cannot accept responsibility for unlawful content independently created or delivered by those parties, subject always to any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Broadcasters and Contributors retain ownership of the Intellectual Property Rights they hold in their stations, content and shows.

Subject to these Terms, the Broadcaster or Contributor grants Kbit Network a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to transmit and retransmit the station, Broadcaster or Contributor content and shows. This licence includes the right to enable end users to receive, view and listen to streams containing such content and shows.

The Broadcaster or Contributor also grants Kbit Network a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to reproduce on its websites and Services any trade marks, logos or branding supplied by the Broadcaster or Contributor in connection with their station, content or show for the purposes of providing, identifying, distributing and promoting the Service and such content.

5. Marketing

Nothing in these Terms creates an agency, partnership, joint venture or employment relationship between Kbit Network and any User, station, Broadcaster or Contributor. No User, station, Broadcaster or Contributor has authority to bind Kbit Network or enter into any commitment on behalf of Kbit Network unless expressly authorised in writing.

Kbit Network may advertise and promote the Service as it considers appropriate. Stations, shows, Broadcasters, Contributors and content made available through the Kbit Network Service may be included within promotional material relating to the Service.

By submitting or delivering a show, content or station to Kbit Network, you agree that Kbit Network may identify, advertise and promote that show, content or station in connection with Kbit Network and its Services, subject to the licences granted under these Terms.

Kbit Network graphics, logos, designs, page headers, button icons, scripts and service names form part of Kbit Network’s branding and trade dress in the United Kingdom and/or other countries.

Kbit Network branding must not be used, including as part of a trade mark or domain name, in connection with any product or service in a manner likely to cause confusion, falsely suggest endorsement or affiliation, or infringe Kbit Network’s rights.

6. Updates

Users may submit updates to shows, content or stations using the relevant upload or update facility available through KbitPlay or the Kbit Network website.

All updates remain subject to Kbit Network’s standard verification, confirmation and approval processes.

Where a proposed change to station information cannot be verified against information made available by the Broadcaster or Contributor, or where a non-functioning stream is identified, Kbit Network may decline the update. Kbit Network is not obliged to issue a separate notification in every case where an update is declined.

Kbit Network may make changes to the Services where reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law in the United Kingdom or with published policies, guidelines or codes of practice representing recognised good practice.

Kbit Network may also amend these Service conditions where reasonably desirable to maintain good practice or the effective operation of the Service and will provide as much notice to stations, Broadcasters and Contributors as is reasonably practicable where such changes materially affect them.

Kbit Network may implement operational changes without prior notice where the change is reasonably required for the operation, security, maintenance or improvement of the Service, provided that Kbit Network will seek to minimise any directly adverse effect on the station’s, Broadcaster’s or Contributor’s access to or use of the Service.

Where reasonably practicable, Kbit Network will provide notice of material operational alterations.

7. Removal

If you wish to remove a particular station or cancel your show or other content, you may contact Kbit Network. We may require reasonable evidence confirming your identity, authority or ownership in relation to the show, content or station before acting on the request.

Once satisfactory verification has been completed, Kbit Network will normally process the removal within four business days.

If you are a paying consumer customer, you may have the right to cancel an order for Services within 14 days after the day on which we email you confirming acceptance of your order, subject to applicable consumer law.

If you request that the Services begin during that cancellation period and later exercise a valid right to cancel after performance has started, you may be required to pay for Services supplied up to the time you inform us of your cancellation, where permitted by law.

To request cancellation, please email admin@kbitnetwork.uk .

Nothing in this section affects any statutory cancellation or consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.

8. Warranties

Each station, Broadcaster, Contributor and Kbit Network warrants to the other that it has the legal power and authority required to enter into and perform its obligations under these Terms.

Kbit Network warrants that it has the right, power and authority necessary to provide the Services and to grant the rights expressly granted by Kbit Network under these Terms.

Kbit Network will provide the Services using reasonable care and skill.

Access to, receipt of and use of the Services, including the streaming of station, Broadcaster or Contributor shows and content to end users, may occasionally be interrupted, delayed or affected by technical circumstances outside Kbit Network’s reasonable control.

Kbit Network does not warrant that use of the Services will be uninterrupted or error-free or that the Service will meet every specific requirement of a station, Broadcaster or Contributor.

Kbit Network does not supply or provide access to hardware or equipment to the station, Broadcaster or Contributor unless expressly stated otherwise.

Kbit Network does not warrant that the Services will operate with every third-party software or hardware configuration. Responsibility for ensuring that appropriate and compatible equipment, software and connectivity are available rests with the station, Broadcaster or Contributor.

The Broadcaster or Contributor warrants and represents that its use of the Service and all material supplied by it will not infringe the Intellectual Property Rights or other legal rights of any third party.

The Broadcaster or Contributor acknowledges that Kbit Network provides a general platform and Service made available to Kbit Network users generally and, unless expressly agreed in writing, does not provide a bespoke service designed specifically for an individual Broadcaster’s or Contributor’s requirements.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, and subject to statutory rights that a User may have as a consumer, no representation, warranty, assurance or undertaking, whether express or implied, is given in relation to the Services other than those expressly set out in these Terms.

THE SERVICE AND WEBSITE ARE PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” BASIS TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE OR NON-INFRINGEMENT, EXCEPT WHERE SUCH WARRANTIES CANNOT LAWFULLY BE EXCLUDED.

9. Termination

Kbit Network may terminate or suspend any or all Services allocated to a Broadcaster or Contributor where the Broadcaster or Contributor materially breaches these Terms or fails to comply with the standards reasonably required for participation in the Service.

Where appropriate, termination or suspension may take effect immediately and without prior notice, particularly where continued use creates a legal, security, copyright, safety or operational risk.

Upon termination of the Service, the Broadcaster’s or Contributor’s right to use the affected Services will cease.

If a Broadcaster or Contributor wishes to terminate their Kbit Network Service, they may discontinue using the Service and notify Kbit Network by emailing admin@kbitnetwork.uk .

All provisions which by their nature are intended to survive termination shall continue in force following termination, including provisions relating to ownership, intellectual property, licences where stated to survive, warranty disclaimers, indemnities and limitations of liability.

10. Broadcaster/Contributor or Station

By uploading, broadcasting, delivering or submitting content to the Kbit Network Services, you confirm that you are the creator or owner of that content or that you have obtained all permissions, licences and authority required from the relevant rights holders to upload, broadcast, deliver and otherwise use it.

By submitting Content through the Service or sending Content to Kbit Network by email or other approved means, you grant Kbit Network and, where necessary for operation of the Service, its assignees, successors, licensees and sub-licensees, a worldwide, royalty-free, fully paid-up licence to use the Content in connection with Kbit Network and its business, including through media and formats now known or subsequently developed, subject to these Terms and applicable law.

Where you dispute or withdraw authority for continued use of particular Content and Kbit Network is reasonably satisfied that you have the right to do so, Kbit Network may remove that Content from the Service.

Kbit Network does not provide music licensing or other rights-clearance services unless expressly agreed separately. Because content may originate from and be accessed in multiple countries, licensing requirements may vary by jurisdiction. The Broadcaster or Contributor remains responsible for identifying and obtaining all licences required for their content.

The Service is provided on an “as is” basis subject to the warranties and statutory rights expressly preserved under these Terms.

Use of the Service may also be subject to separate third-party terms and charges, including those imposed by internet providers, mobile network operators or other service providers. Charges for data usage, excess usage or other third-party services remain your responsibility.

To the extent legally permitted and applicable, disputes arising between you and Kbit Network may be resolved by binding arbitration. By accepting these Terms, you and Kbit Network may each waive the right to a trial by jury or to participate in a class action where such waiver and arbitration arrangement is valid and enforceable under the law applicable to the dispute.

Nothing in these Terms excludes any right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable consumer or other mandatory law.

11. Your Content

A. You agree that you will not deliver, broadcast, upload or otherwise make available through Kbit Network any content intended or reasonably likely to damage Kbit Network or the operation of the Service, or any content that is illegal, unlawfully threatening, defamatory, pornographic, libellous, unlawfully discriminatory, slanderous, harassing, indecent, excessively vulgar or otherwise unlawful or inappropriate for the Service.

B. You agree not to impersonate another person or entity, or falsely state or otherwise misrepresent your identity, authority or affiliation with any person or entity.

C. By uploading, sending or delivering Content to Kbit Network, you grant Kbit Network a non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable licence, throughout the world, to use, reproduce, transmit and distribute your Content as reasonably required to operate, provide, distribute and promote the Service, subject to these Terms.

D. You are solely responsible for Content that you deliver by email, stream, URL, upload or any other method, together with the consequences of posting, publishing, broadcasting or otherwise making that Content available through Kbit Network.

E. You affirm, represent and warrant that you own or possess all licences, rights, consents and permissions required to use your URL, Content, upload or stream and to permit its inclusion and use through Kbit Network Services. You agree that your Content will not unlawfully infringe or misuse any third-party right, including copyright, trade mark, patent, privacy, publicity or other proprietary right, and will not violate applicable law or regulation.

F. Any Content you upload, email, stream or otherwise deliver to Kbit Network remains owned and controlled by you or the relevant rights holder and does not become the property of Kbit Network merely because it is supplied to the Service. You remain responsible for all Content supplied by you.

G. Kbit Network is not responsible for the removal, deletion, restriction or blocking of your Content by third-party websites, platforms or services, including where Kbit Network content or a Kbit Network media player has been embedded on a third-party website.

12. Liability of Content

You acknowledge that Kbit Network acts primarily as a platform through which Users, Broadcasters, Contributors and stations may distribute and promote their content and information.

You are solely responsible for Content that you deliver to Kbit Network by email, URL, stream, upload or any other method.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Kbit Network is not responsible for creating, licensing or independently verifying content supplied by Broadcasters, Contributors or stations and is not obliged to provide, update or compile audience, performance or other statistics on behalf of a Broadcaster, Contributor or station unless expressly agreed otherwise.

Kbit Network and its successors, employees, agents, directors and officers exclude, to the maximum extent permitted by law, liability arising solely from content supplied to the platform by Broadcasters, Contributors or stations, including claims relating to infringement of privacy, publicity or Intellectual Property Rights; the publication of unlawful, pornographic, defamatory, obscene or offensive material; or assertions concerning the accuracy, completeness or reliability of information supplied by Broadcasters, Contributors or stations.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including any liability that cannot be excluded or restricted under applicable consumer-protection or other mandatory law.

13. Advertising

Kbit Network, KbitTV and KbitPlay may provide advertising and promotional opportunities to businesses, event organisers, individual advertisers, Broadcasters, Presenters and other eligible users through the Network.

Advertising opportunities may include website banner advertising, recorded audio advertising, live advertising and presenter-operated “Self Ad” campaigns, together with any other advertising formats subsequently made available through Kbit Network.

All advertising is subject to these Terms and to the advertising requirements, prices, packages, technical specifications and campaign conditions published by Kbit Network or KbitPlay from time to time.

Banner advertisements may be displayed across the KbitPlay website and may contain a link to an advertiser’s website, event page, social-media page or other approved destination. Advertisers are responsible for providing advertising artwork in the dimensions and file formats specified by Kbit Network and for ensuring that any destination URL is accurate, operational, lawful and appropriate.

Audio advertisements may be played during scheduled advertising breaks in or around Kbit Network broadcasts. Audio advertisements must comply with the maximum duration, file format, file-size and other technical requirements specified by Kbit Network when the campaign is booked.

Kbit Network may permit multiple advertisements to be allocated to an individual advertising slot, and the number, timing and availability of advertising slots may change depending on Network scheduling and capacity.

Advertising may be purchased using tokens, payment card, invoice or another payment method made available for the relevant advertising product. Certain advertising formats may only be purchased using tokens. Token prices, packages, advertising rates and the number of tokens required for a campaign may be amended from time to time and will be shown through the relevant booking system before an order is confirmed.

An advertising order does not guarantee publication or broadcast. All advertisements are subject to review and approval by Kbit Network. Campaigns may remain pending until they have been reviewed and approved.

Kbit Network may reject, suspend, remove or require changes to any advertisement that does not comply with these Terms, applicable law, advertising standards, technical requirements or Kbit Network’s advertising guidelines, or which Kbit Network reasonably considers unsuitable for the Network.

Advertising must not contain unlawful, adult, hateful, discriminatory, defamatory, fraudulent or misleading material. Advertisements must not impersonate another person, organisation or brand or make statements that the advertiser cannot reasonably substantiate. Audio advertising must be suitable for the audience and must not contain inappropriate explicit language. Banner advertisements must not be designed in a way that misleadingly imitates Kbit Network’s website interface, system notifications or security messages.

Where an audio advertisement is rejected before running, any applicable token refund or payment refund will be handled in accordance with the advertising conditions and payment method applicable to that campaign.

Presenters and Broadcasters must not insert, play, read or otherwise deliver unauthorised paid advertising within a live or recorded programme. Any Broadcaster wishing to include its own advertising or advertising sold to a third-party client must first use the appropriate advertising option, advertising allocation, credit, token package or other authorisation made available by Kbit Network.

Eligible KbitPlay Presenters may be offered a “Self Ad” option. A Self Ad permits an authorised Presenter to read or play an approved advertisement during their own show rather than supplying the advertisement for separate automated scheduling.

Where a Presenter purchases or accepts a Self Ad campaign, that Presenter is responsible for delivering the agreed advertisement during their regular show throughout the agreed campaign period and for ensuring that the advertisement remains consistent with the approved campaign and complies with these Terms and all applicable advertising requirements.

A Presenter or Broadcaster delivering advertising on behalf of their own client remains responsible for their relationship with that advertiser and for the accuracy, legality and suitability of advertising claims or materials supplied by the client.

If a Presenter is unable to deliver a scheduled Self Ad because the relevant programme cannot be broadcast, the Presenter should notify Kbit Network as soon as reasonably practicable so that the campaign arrangements can be reviewed.

Kbit Network may monitor broadcasts to verify compliance with an advertising campaign and with these Terms.

Kbit Network may also place advertising in or around programmes distributed through the Service where permitted by the relevant service arrangements. Any revenue-sharing opportunity offered to Broadcasters or Contributors will be governed by the advertising or revenue programme applicable at the time, including any published eligibility criteria, payment arrangements or separately agreed revenue-share terms.

Unless Kbit Network expressly agrees otherwise in writing, participation in an advertising or revenue programme does not guarantee any minimum amount of advertising, audience reach, impressions, revenue, enquiries, sales or other commercial result.

Unauthorised advertising or repeated failure to comply with the advertising requirements may result in removal of an advertisement, suspension of advertising privileges, charges properly due under an agreed advertising arrangement, or suspension or termination of a broadcast slot or Service in accordance with these Terms.

Current advertising formats, requirements, campaign options and payment information are available through the Kbit Network and KbitPlay advertising and revenue pages.

14. Changes to Broadcast Types

A Broadcaster may not change their agreed broadcast status from a live show to a recorded show, or from a recorded show to a live show, without providing at least seven days’ written notice by email and receiving confirmation from Kbit Network.

Where a request to change the broadcast type is submitted only three days before the scheduled slot, an administration fee of £15 will be charged to cover the management and scheduling work associated with the change.

A new application is required where a Broadcaster wishes to make a permanent change between live and recorded broadcasting.

15. Copyrights

You acknowledge and warrant that Content emailed, uploaded, streamed or otherwise delivered by you to Kbit Network will not unlawfully violate or infringe the rights of any third party, including performers’ rights, Intellectual Property Rights, privacy rights or publicity rights.

You certify that you have obtained all permissions, licences and consents required from every person or entity whose name, voice, performance, image, likeness, music, recording or other protected material is incorporated into your Content, so that you may lawfully deliver, upload, stream, email or otherwise provide that Content to Kbit Network.

You agree that your Content, and each element of it, is either an original work created by you or is material for which you have obtained all rights, licences, consents and permissions necessary for its use through Kbit Network.

You further confirm that you have all rights required to use, upload, transmit, distribute, reproduce, share and publicly display or perform the Content delivered to or made available through Kbit Network.

Kbit Network reserves the right to remove Content or terminate or suspend a show or performance where the relevant submission infringes copyright or otherwise violates these Terms.

The safest way to avoid copyright infringement is not to deliver, upload, stream, broadcast or share material created or owned by another person unless you have obtained the rights or permission necessary to do so.

Information concerning intellectual-property laws in different jurisdictions is available through the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) at: http://www.wipo.int/wipolex/en/

Kbit Network respects the Intellectual Property Rights of others and expects its Broadcasters and Contributors to do the same.

Where applicable, Kbit Network will respond to sufficiently clear notices of alleged copyright infringement, including notices properly made under relevant copyright legislation such as the United States Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). Information about the DMCA is available from the United States Copyright Office at: http://www.copyright.gov/legislation/dmca.pdf

Kbit Network may remove Content and may suspend or terminate the Services of persons reasonably determined to be repeat infringers.

You agree to comply with the conditions above and acknowledge that Kbit Network may, acting reasonably and in accordance with applicable law, remove Content, suspend access or take other appropriate action where you breach these conditions or any other applicable terms relating to the Kbit Network website or Services.

Broadcasting Adult Content on KbitNetwork

General Principles

KbitNetwork and all presenters, producers, and content providers must comply with the UK Ofcom Broadcasting Code regarding the protection of children and the prevention of harmful or offensive material. These rules are governed by the Ofcom Broadcasting Code, available here: ofcom.org.uk/broadcast-code .

Unlike television broadcasting, radio does not operate under a fixed watershed. Broadcasters must consider the likely audience at the time of transmission and whether children may reasonably be expected to be listening.

Content Before Adult Listening Hours

At times when children are likely to be listening, content must be suitable for a general audience. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Strong or offensive language
  • Explicit sexual references or discussions
  • Graphic descriptions of violence
  • References to illegal drug use
  • Adult themes that may cause harm or distress to younger listeners

Only clean or radio-edited versions of music tracks should be broadcast during these periods.

Content During Adult Listening Hours

At times when children are not particularly likely to be listening, broadcasters may include more mature themes and stronger language, provided such content:

  • Is justified by the context of the programme
  • Does not breach the Ofcom Broadcasting Code
  • Is not intended solely to shock, offend, or provoke
  • Includes appropriate audience warnings where necessary

Prohibited Adult Material

The following material is strictly prohibited at all times:

  • Explicit pornography
  • Material equivalent to a British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) R18 rating
  • Non-consensual sexual content or descriptions thereof
  • Content that promotes or glorifies sexual violence
  • Any material that breaches UK broadcasting laws or Ofcom regulations

Content Guidance for Live Broadcasts Between 16:00 and 22:00 GMT

The period between 16:00 and 22:00 GMT spans family listening hours through to late-evening programming. Broadcasters must adjust language, music, and discussion topics accordingly.

16:00 – 19:00 GMT: School Run & Drive Time (High Risk)

This period has a high likelihood of children and families listening.

  • Strong language, including the “F-word” and similarly offensive terms, is prohibited
  • Adult themes, sexual innuendo, and explicit discussions must not be broadcast
  • References to illegal drug use, self-harm, or graphic violence should be avoided
  • Only clean or radio-edited music versions may be played
  • Presenters must ensure discussions remain suitable for a family audience

19:00 – 21:00 GMT: Evening Transition (Moderate Risk)

Although the number of child listeners typically decreases, younger audiences may still be listening.

  • Mild or infrequent swear words may be acceptable where editorially justified and unlikely to cause offence
  • Strong language remains discouraged and may result in review or removal of content
  • Discussions may include more mature topics, provided they are presented responsibly and without explicit detail
  • Music containing explicit language must continue to be avoided unless appropriately edited

21:00 – 22:00 GMT: Late Evening Transition (Lower Risk)

While radio has no official watershed, 21:00 is widely recognised as the point at which more adult-oriented content may be introduced.

  • Strong language may be used where justified by context and programme format
  • Adult themes, mature discussions, and darker comedy may be included
  • Explicit sexual content, pornography, or material likely to cause serious offence remains prohibited
  • Presenters should avoid excessive or gratuitous use of offensive language
  • Where a programme introduces a significant shift toward adult content after 21:00, presenters are encouraged to provide a verbal audience advisory or warning
